Only on few occasions has the opening of an auditorium created such expectation. The building created for music in Tenerife by the sea and designed by Santiago Calatrava, is an enormous sculpture as seen from the outside. The cathedral-like interior allows a blend in the relation between architecture and music. The acoustics initially offer a clear, transparent impression though not especially brilliant in the upper range of the stronger sounds. Though with slight adjustments, the quality of the sound would, without doubt, improve.
Calatrava’s bird-shaped boat structure lifted its sails decisively the day before yesterday, with the wind in its favor. Tenerife was a festival with Prince Felipe as guest of honor.
