The transformation of the Mataró station is a large-scale project that involves the renovation and reconfiguration of a significant transportation station located on the city"s seafront, as well as the transformation of the surrounding urban environment. The scope of action is twofold. On one hand, it includes the transformation of the Mataró station, which encompasses the design, renovation, and improvement of infrastructure, accessibility, mobility, user experience, technology, and sustainability of the existing transportation station. The goal is to create a functional, efficient, comfortable, and sustainable space for users and the community at large. On the other hand, it includes urban transformation aimed at bringing the station closer to demand centers and improving citizens" access to both the station and the port and beaches.

A key aspect of the Mataró station is ensuring transversal urban permeability to connect the city with the beach and marina both visually and for pedestrians. The aim is to mitigate the "barrier effect" that the rail yard creates at this critical point in the city. To this end, it is proposed to create new pedestrian underpasses beneath the rail yard that traverse the station transversely, connecting the city with the seafront. These underpasses are designed not just for station flows but as true axes of connectivity between the city and the sea (beach and port), serving as important public spaces of strategic significance.

Thus, direct access from the city, beneath the tracks, and to the lower level of the port is required without the need to return to the elevation of the promenade, thereby facilitating water drainage.
