The Stage I of the Rehabilitation Works in the Deba Masonry Bridge came to its end last week. Works have been promoted by the Culture Department of the Diputacion Foral de Gipuzkoa.
The Deba masonry bridge was built in the late 19th Century. It is considered the most outstanding example of bridge construction from 19th Century in the region, and holds a Special Protection Status as a Monument since 2012. The foundation of its central pier collapsed in July 2018, due to xylophage attack in its wooden piles.
Recent works have comprised micropile underpinning of piers 1 and 3, erection and launching of a movable scaffolding system steel girder over spans 2 and 3, installation and posttensioning of hanging bars to transfer the weight of the vaults to the steel girder, and final installation of a temporary footbridge within the steel truss girder.
Final rehabilitation Works are scheduled to start in a few months. More details to come!
FHECOR and INJELAN were engaged retained by the Diputacion Foral de Gipuzkoa to assist during these works and to design prospective rehabilitation activities. Freyssinet España S.A.U. has been the main contractor in Stage I, with cooperation from Geotunel, Ulma and Atesvi.
