LANGA DE DUERO BRIDGE. RENOVATION OF A 500 YEARS OLD STRUCTURE

07/2019

FHECOR has worked for the Diputación de Soria to inspect the Langa de Duero bridge and developed a renovation project, defining all the necessary works to increase life and safety of this monument.

The bridge was built at the end of the XV century. It is a 160 m long masonry bridge with 11 barrel vaults and a three-centered arch one. Three of the piers are located in the Duero River channel, and that´s the reason why they have been the ones suffering the most throughout the centuries.

First of all, a special inspection was performed by FHECOR to detect the damages in the structure, including an underwater inspection of the pier foundations located in the river. After that, a renovation project was developed, proposing works to repair the foundations, as well as improving structural performance of the structure, like substituting the loose fill of the vaults by concrete.

It is always a pleasure to be working with structures built so long ago. FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores is totally committed with heritage conservation, which is one of the main focuses of our professional activity.
